Shortly after, automobile André Citroën, House offers graciously Commons street names plates. The Council accepts the offer and entrusts to the road commission support to establish the number of plates to apply and the particulars to be included.
In 1934, by the decision of March 10, the municipal Council decided numbering of buildings with the laying of a plate on each house. You should know that in France the house numbering is left to the mayor of the town. There is no system imposed. We meet two kinds of numbers: sequential and metric.
In the sequential numbering (one adopted Leers) buildings are numbered from 2 to 2 since the beginning of the road. Even numbers are grouped on one side of the street, usually on the right from a fixed point, close to city center and odd numbers on the other side. This numbering should be already urbanized areas or when the space between houses is insufficient for other buildings fit.
In the metric numbering system, building numbers represent the distance, usually in meters, separating them from the beginning of the road. This system is best suited for sparsely built or undergoing urbanization, because every new building built requires no change following the house numbers.
Until the 1950s, the mapping of streets and lanes of Leers was little changed. Then, certainly a result of population explosion after the 2nd World War, new neighborhoods have sprung up with the construction of new residences. Thus nearly a hundred ways (streets, alleys, trails ...) were created giving a totally different aspect to our town.
In 2010 our city had 171 tracks, residences and hamlets.
